Today's psalter

The holy hieromartyr, Anthimus, bishop of Nicomedia.
Our venerable father, Theoctistus, companion of Euthymius, the great.
Friday: The holy and lifegiving cross

For Anthimus
Troparion, Tone IV
By choosing the apostles' way of life, * you succeeded to their throne. * Inspired by God, * you found the way to divine contemplation through the practice of virtue, * and after teaching the word of truth without error, * you defended the faith to the very shedding of your blood. * O holy father, Anthimus, * entreat the Lord to save our souls.

Kondakion, Tone IV
You spent your life consumed by the things of the spirit, * fighting idolatry and defending your flock as you walked the path to martyrdom. * So, now, we cry out to you in our devotion: * By your prayers, deliver us from every danger, O ever-memorable Anthimus.

For Theoctistus
Troparion, Tone VIII
Like warm and gentle rain, * your compunction made the arid desert burst forth in bloom. * Your endurance made your sufferings bear fruit a hundredfold, * while your wonders filled all the world with light. * O holy father, Theoctistus, * beg Christ, our God, to save our souls.

Kondakion, Tone IV
As a desert companion of the great Euthymius, * your remarkable feats made you an angel on earth. * And by your divine signs throughout the world, * you purify the hearts of believers at all times. * Therefore, inspired by love of God, * we, too, honor your memory.

For the cross
Troparion, Tone I
O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. * Give victory to those who battle evil, * and with your cross protect us all.

Kondakion, Tone IV
Bestow your mercies on all who bear your name, * O you who freely let yourself be raised upon the cross. * In your power, gladden all who battle evil, * by gracing them with victory over every foe. * For as long as they have you as their ally, * they possess a weapon of peace, * unfailing trophy of victory.

Stavrotheotokion, Tone I
Surrounded by the grace of your son’s holy cross, * we hasten to sing your praises, O lady most pure. * For we enjoy your constant intercession * that preserves us from every evil.

Blessed is the kingdom of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit both now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
