The Sixth Saturday

Today, the Saturday before Palm Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of Lazarus four days after his death. On this occasion, Jesus wept openly because of his great sorrow over the death of his friend, and then, with his divine power, he raised him from death. Christ God: By the prayers of your friend Lazarus, have mercy on us, amen.

After the second reading, these stichera, the first in Tone VIII:

Now that we have reached the conclusion of the forty days, * we beseech you, O Lord and lover of mankind: * Grant that we may also partake in the holy week of your saving passion. * Enable us to glorify the marvels you performed at that time, * those wondrous works you did to save us, * so that we may sing with one accord: * O Lord, glory to you!

And this troparion:

To assure us, before you suffered, of our own resurrection, * you raised Lazarus from the dead, Christ, our God. * So we, too, acclaim you with victory branches, * as we hail you for your triumph over death: * Hosanna in the heights! * Blest is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Then, in Tone VI:

We have seen Christ's resurrection! * In adoration let us fall before the holy Lord Jesus, * for he alone has never sinned! * Your cross, O Christ, do we honor, * and we glorify your resurrection! * For you alone are really God: * Your name is ever on our lips! * Let us all fall down in worship; * let us adore his third-day rising from the dead. * Through his cross, joy has filled the world. * A blessing for the Lord be ever on our lips; * the praise and glory of his rising ever be our song. * By bearing all the sufferings of the cross, a deathblow has he dealt to death!

Then, Psalm 51(50), with this refrain in Tone III:

You raised your friend from death, O Lord, * to assure us that we, too, will rise.

...

Kondakion, Tone IV:

You are the truth and resurrection, O Christ, * our joy, our life, and our light. * In your tenderness of heart, you appeared to those on earth, * making yourself the pattern of our resurrection, * and granting to all the remission of sins.

At tersext:

The office of tersext is taken as during the rest of the year; it is found in the Book of Prayers, pages 493-500. We use the troparion and kondakion for today.
