9th week after Pentecost, Tone VIII
On this date we celebrate:
Our venerable father, Nicodemus of Athos.
Monday: The powers of heaven.
- For Nicodemus
- Troparion, Tone III
Adorned with the gift of wisdom, O holy father, * you became the trumpet of the Lord and the clarion of the Holy Spirit, * a guide to excellence and a teacher of virtue. * Instructing us in purity of life that leads to salvation, * and through the brilliance of your teaching, * you are a light for all the world, O you who speak for God.Kondakion, Tone VIII
Extolling you as a godbearing teacher of true devotion, * the church reveres you as a perfect mystic of virtuous living, O holy father. * With your inspired teaching and the divine gifts you obtained from on high, * you enlighten all who cry out to you: * Rejoice, Nicodemus, venerable father.
- For the powers of heaven
- Troparion, Tone IV
O leaders of the hosts of heaven, * shield us with the wings of your unearthly glory, * and keep us safe from harm. * Worthless as we are, * we fall before you endlessly entreating you: * Rescue us from all affliction, * O you who lead the powers of heaven.Kondakion, Tone II
O leaders of God's spirit hosts who celebrate his glory, * you guides of all mankind who also head angelic legions: * Come and fill our every need, * and beg our God to grant us his great mercy. Theotokion, Tone IV
Raised in the temple of the Lord near the holy of holies, * you were schooled in faith and wisdom, and robed in virginity beyond compare. * To you Gabriel came with this message from on high: * Hail to you, most blessed one, O favorite of God, * the Lord is with you.
Blessed is the kingdom of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit both now and forever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
